CURRICULUM VITAE

Hello, I’m Joyce. I’ve enjoyed a varied career as a professional artist in many capacities including illustration, graphic design, product design and fine art painting. Each time one door closed, I found another one to open, never giving up on my desire to remain a full time artist. I am grateful for every experience I’ve encountered along the way - each one allowing me to continue to learn and grow both personally and professionally.

Experience

Fine artist — 2001 - PRESENT

I work in my home studio as a contemporary expressionist painter. My current focus is on painting landscapes, florals and gardens. I use color and expressive mark-making to bring excitement and life into my work using pastels, acrylic and oils. I market myself through my website and social media while applying for individual show opportunities and gallery representation. I was recently represented at The Gallery 32789 in Winter Park, FL and I am now actively seeking new representation.

PRODUCT DESIGN & ART LICENSING -2003-PRESENT

I earn royalties from licensing my art and designing products for the gift and home industry. I was an exhibitor at both the Surface and Textile design show and the Art Licensing show in NYC on a yearly basis. In order to advance my knowledge and keep up with the industry I taught myself Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I worked exclusively as a product designer for 10 years with Giftcraft Co. during which time my licensing career continued to expand with many other manufactures. My art is on a variety of products including fabric, gift wrap, greeting cards, coasters, puzzles and home and garden items to name a few. I also designed several tableware collections with Certified International Co. during this time which retailed in small and large stores such as Pier One and Macy’s.

JURIED ART FESTIVAL EXHIBITING FINE ARTIST -2000 - 2003

Using a printing press, I painted colorful, stylized monotypes in my home studio which I exhibited at juried fine art festivals such as The Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival. While on the festival circuit I earned several achievement and cash awards. I created the poster for The Winter Park Autumn Art Festival three times as well as the Maitland Rotary Festival poster twice. I remained an active participant on the Winter Park Autumn Art Festival for 25 years and held the position of Chair Person for two of those years which involved all the responsibilities required to run a successful show.

Free-lance illustrator - 1990 - 2003

Having furthered my art education through workshops and self discipline, my experience with a variety of mediums and my ability to fit the art style with the job allowed me to grow my illustration portfolio existentially and remain a full time professional artist. I did free-lance illustration for both local and national clients including Walt Disney World, Darden Restaurants, Kimberly Clark, Harcourt Publishing, AAA, Costco, a variety of National Advertising agencies and Target Corporation to name a few.

ILLUSTrator for major department stores - 1973 -1990

Following graduation from art school I worked in advertising as an illustrator for newspaper ads at both J Byrons (Miami) and Belk Lindsay (Orlando) Department Stores. I was responsible for illustrating fashion, housewares and jewelry. I also free-lanced for a fashion designer creating illustrations of her designs for her catalog. At this time I also worked in a portrait studio painting pastel portraits for clients.

Teaching

I have taught several painting workshops and given private lessons in my studio and in my neighborhood community. I also created and sold an on-line course titled “Expressive Painting With Oil Pastels”.

Currently I volunteer with Artworks Orlando teaching art to children at the Edgewood Children’s Ranch in Orlando.
