BIOGRAPHY

Joyce Shelton is a contemporary artist living and working in central Florida. Having spent most of her career as a professional illustrator and product designer, she has now turned her focus towards fine art painting in a variety of mediums. Inspired by nature and the Florida landscape, her color palette reflects the rich pinks, purples and oranges of tropical foliage and the calming blues of coastal waters.

Following graduation from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, she began her career as an artist with two major department stores illustrating fashion, home goods and jewelry for newspaper ads. When photography replaced illustration, ending her job, she found success as a full time free-lance illustrator. A partial list of clients from that time includes Walt Disney World, Darden Restaurants, Kimberly Clark, Harcourt Publishing, AAA, Costco, several local and national advertising agencies and Target Corporation. While freelancing illustration, she worked in her home studio and perfected a monotype printing technique using an old hand-made ringer washer press and spent several years exhibiting them at juried fine art shows throughout Florida. Currently she works at perfecting her fine art painting while continuing to license her art and design products for the gift and home industry. Her art can be seen on a variety of products including dishes, fabric, gift wrap, greeting cards, coasters, puzzles and home and garden items.

Through workshops and personal mentoring, she has studied with several professional traditional and abstract artists, awakening her desire for further self-discovery as a fine art painter.
